New Zealand can sometimes be a bit behind the eight ball when it comes to global trends, but thanks to Wellingtonian Floyd Morgan, we have now caught up with the latest dance part craze sweeping America.
Mr Morgan's paint party, Illuminate, was the first of its kind to hit Australasia and demonstrates exactly what happens when you dress 1,500 youngsters in white, and add 500 litres of fluorescent paint – you get a very messy, but very appreciative crowd.
“I’ve had so much good feedback, ‘best night of my life’, ‘best party I’ve ever been to’,” says Mr Morgan.
“A lot of the DJs say, ‘best party I’ve ever played at’.”
It is a first for New Zealand, but paint parties are already a fixture on the American dance party circuit and have proven to be a success.
“I think the paint and the fact you can throw paint on the person next to y ou – you don’t even have to know them,” says Mr Morgan.
“It’s fine because everyone is just smiling and having a great time.”
At the end of the day it seems people just like getting grubby.
“It’s that inner child – people want to do what brings them back to their kindergarten days where they can just not think about the clean up.”
All other requisite party goodies are also available for the events.
“We sell glow sticks as well and shutter shades – so people could keep their eyes protected as well,” says Mr Morgan.
