Microsoft Hardware turned 25 and Jason and Jason were invited to help drink their beer and eat their food! Yep they actually had a party to celebrate all the mice, keyboards, webcams and other bits and pieces that have been created over the years.  So Microsoft being Microsoft, hired out a flash multi-million dollar apartment on Princess Wharf overlooking the water, bought in world class street dancers, Nesian Mystic and an endless supply of beer and food all served by lovely ladies to ensure a memorable evening for all.  Of course they had a range of products on display from past and present so you could get all touchy feely with them.  I personally fell for the Desktop 8000 with its slim form profile, rechargeable mouse and dock and cool backlit keys, but unfortunately it was a little too big to slip under my coat - bugger!

present were a few big wigs from Seattle to talk briefly about some of the innovations and insights into the process of taking the products from concept and design through to finished product.  It was actually pretty cool to see some of the computer products from yester year with the first Microsoft Mouse back in 1982, and to see how far technology has progressed since then, and to think that it’s only going to get better and better. And you thought that a keyboard was just a keyboard.

Here’s a wee look at some of the cool geeky things hitting the stores…

ImageGOING MOBILE - RRP $159

The Microsoft Mobile Memory Mouse 8000 is  the industry’s first rechargeable notebook mouse with 1 GB of flash memory built right into the transceiver. This is a pretty cool feature when you consider all the devices out there that fight for your USB slots, it nice to see integration of multiple features into one. The single transceiver is a three-in-one supertool that lets users simultaneously work wirelessly, save important files with 1 GB of storage and recharge the mouse without deficiency in performance — all through one USB port.

Also releasing is the Microsoft Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 and the Wireless Notebook Laser Mouse 7000. Designed to make notebook computing more productive and reduce touchpad fatigue, these mice provide superior wireless technology and sleek, compact designs to keep users working on the go.

The Sidewinder is fully customisable and has three available dpi settings to let you choose your speed. A pretty handy feature especially when you need more precision when switching into sniper mode. It even comes with tuning tools such as weights which you can insert into the side to suit, as well as interchangeable mouse feet pads all crammed into a comfortable design for ultimate handling. Features include one-touch access to Windows Vista® Games Explorer, Quick Turn — a performance-enhancing macro that lets users check their perimeter from wherever they are in-game; — the first-ever LCD on a gaming mouse and a cable anchor that doubles as an accessories storage box.

The Wireless Entertainment Desktop 8000 was dubbed the “ultimate keyboard” when it was unveiled last year and illustrates Microsoft Hardware’s history of evolving and transforming the desktop computing experience. With the industry’s first wireless rechargeable and backlit desktop, this masterful combination of futuristic industrial design and productivity-enhancing features is only an inch thick. Filled with deluxe enhancements that allow users to work and play where, when and how they want taking advantage of Windows Vista, this desktop allows users to easily accomplish everyday tasks, instantly find what they are looking for and enjoy the latest in entertainment.

ImageGETTING COMFORTABLE - $219

Continuing its history of innovation and ergonomic design, Microsoft has released the Natural Ergonomic Desktop 7000 which has arisen out of the need for comfortable peripherals that prevent things such as RSI and sore wrists, etc.  Something which is becoming more and more important as people depend on computers more and more not just for work, but in everyday life.

ImageSTAY CONNECTED - RRP -$189

For sharing photos and memories. Microsoft has introduced two new webcams, the LifeCam VX-7000 designed for the desktop and the LifeCam NX-3000 for notebooks.
