ImageIf you're new to the Dead or Alive Xtreme series, the premise is scantily clad women hanging out on a tropical island, playing volleyball, riding jet skis and posing seductively for photographs. There’s a vague storyline involving Zack (a kickboxer from the Dead or Alive fighting series) but basically you are left with a bunch of well endowed girls to play with. To put it bluntly, I couldn’t help but feel a bit like a pervert playing a game that revolves around breasts. The first Dead or Alive Extreme game -- DOA Xtreme Beach Volleyball -- was a cheap, easy volleyball game surrounded by what was basically a virtual dollhouse which didn’t really have the legs to keep anyone interested. To be fair, the developers Team Ninja have not tried to disguise it for what it is and the graphics are well polished.

The breasts jiggle is pretty realistic (not that I’m an expert) and apparently the frame rate was slowed

down to 30fps to accommodate the necessary algorithms.

But once you’ve got past the slightly sad novelties of virtual voyeurism, you’re not actually left with much of a game. There are two primary activities of your day beside boobie-watching – volleyball and jetski-racing.

Beach volleyball has only a few basic moves and most of your success or failure coming down to basic timing. Once you find an approach that works against one set of opponents, you can pretty much rely on it throughout the game.

This leaves you with a few novelty activities – butt battle, tug-of-war, pool hopping, water-slide – which are spectacularly shallow, seemingly existing only to offer you more opportunities to ogle these digital beauties during activities that make their boobs wobble.

If there are plans for future Xtreme spin-offs, hopefully Team Ninja can establish some depth, and real production values, but so far it only seems to be a way to reuse assets from previously-developed games and sell a new, cheaply-developed product at full price. I can’t recommend this game to anybody but fans of the series and the curious types looking for a game to whet their sexual appetites.
